800 Indians nearly stuck in Ukraine. They were brought back to India in four flights operated by the Air Force.
The evacuation process has been coded as ‘Operation Ganga’. It has been co-ordinated in each country by deputed Union Minister. India requested all citizens in Kharkiv to leave for safer areas immediately.
Flights from Romanian capital Bucharest, Hungary capital Budapest and the Polish city of Rzeszow landed at the Hindon Air Force base in Ghaziabad which is near Delhi. All four planes that have been used were the C-17 military transport.
The first flight carried 200 people from Bucharest. The flight was received by Junior Defence Minister Ajay Bhatt. The second flight carried 210 people from Budapest and that was followed soon after by a third flight carried 208 people from Poland’s Rzescow. The fourth flight brought 180 people back from Budapest.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi requested the Air Force’s involvement in the evacuation process which helped in increase daily evacuations.
An Indian student died in Kharkiv shelter. Kharkiv is the second largest city of Ukraine. Naveen Shekharappa from Karnataka was killed while he was trying to buy food. Another student from Punjab died in Ukraine after suffered from stroke.
