Morbi Disaster: Opposition blames Modi

“Such a sad day has rarely come in life,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the bridge accident in Gujarat on Sunday. He visited the scene after two days. On Tuesday afternoon, Modi got down from the car and walked to the broken bridge in Morbi. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. The officers present informed the Prime Minister about the accident. Along with the national and state disaster response teams, the army has also joined the rescue operation in Morbi since Tuesday morning.

Rescue workers are searching the Macchu river with boats and speedboats for missing people. Professional divers have been brought in. The Prime Minister also spoke to them. The Gujarat government has decided to observe a mourning day in the state on Wednesday. As of Tuesday, 141 people have died in bridge accidents. Although the number is claimed to be 135 by the state government. Among the dead are 47 children and 35 women.

The opposition is all about this ‘administrative preparation’ before Modi’s hospital visit. They claimed that the name of a hospital in Jamnagar was written on some bed sheets. The hospital is located 160 km from Morbi. According to Congress and AAP leaders, this initiative is to create an atmosphere for the Prime Minister’s photo shoot at the hospital. During his visit to the bridge, the name board of the maintenance agency was covered with tripe. The two opposition parties have alleged that the victims of the bridge accident are being politicized.
