Labor Summit under G20 Presidency Concluded in Patna

The two-day G20 Labor Summit in Patna concluded on June 23, 2023, Friday. The meeting witnessed deliberations on the draft statement on migrant labor, universal social security, women, and the future of work. Further, several bilateral and multilateral meetings also took place on the last day. The two–day summit was attended by representatives from 28 countries, besides trade union leaders, experts, academics, and government officials.

Senior Trade Union leader KK Tiwari praised BMS and affiliated unions for democratic organization of Labour20, while delegates expressed solidarity at the Ashoka Convention Center in Patna. During the G20 Labor Summit, a resolution was adopted, highlighting consensus on key issues. The Troika countries, Indonesia, India, and Brazil issued a joint statement.

Hiranmoy Pandya, Labor 20 group chairman, handed over leadership to Ruth Coelho Monteiro, Brazil’s next chairperson. The G20 delegates visited Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara in Patna Sahib. On the last day, experts presented papers on various issues. While addressing the meeting, Labor expert Ravi Raman said, “The global scenario of work migration has changed due to the introduction of artificial intelligence and information and communication technology.”
