Jammu Kasmir electoral rolls to be prepared by August 31

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has started revising the electoral roll in the union territory to be prepared by August 31, sources said on Wednesday.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey conducted a review and directed the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir to prepare maps of the redrawn assembly constituencies.

The electoral roll needs to be revised before the first assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said the renewal of constituencies necessitated intensive and time-bound pre-amendment activities.

Instructions have also been given to appoint officers for the work of updating the voter list.

During the revision exercise, citizens will be given the opportunity to enroll, delete and change their details in the electoral roll.

Last month, the central government issued a notification saying that the Delimitation Commission order that redrawn constituency and added six additional assembly seats to Jammu division and one to Kashmir will come into effect from May 20.
