Harry Potter’s Hagrid Passes away at 72

Robbie Coltrane, the infant-faced comedian and character actor who played more than a hundred roles including the crime-solving psychologist in the TV series ‘Cracker’ and the gentle half-giant Hagrid in the famous movie ‘Harry Potter’, has died. He was 72 years old.

The actor’s agent, Belinda Wright, stated he died on Friday at a hospital in Scotland. He did not give a reason. In her statement about his death, Belinda Wright stated that “as well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly intelligent and after 40 years of being proud to be his agent, I will miss him.” He also said that Coltrane is survived by his sister Annie Ray, his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell and his children Spencer and Alice.

Coltrane appeared in every ‘Harry Potter’ movie from 2001’s ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’ to 2011’s ‘Deathly Hallows Part 2’ and was a favorite to bring the character from J.K. Rowling’s book series To Life.

Robbie Coltrane was one of the key characters to appear on the screen and recited one of the famous lines, “Yer a wizard, Harry” to a young Daniel Radcliffe as he embarked on his journey into the world of the wizard.
