The Assam border protested in Shillong on Monday against the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the state and Assam in March this year.

Pritam Areng, President, FKJGP (Garo Hills Zone) said, “This protest is mainly due to the MoU signed between the Government of Meghalaya and the Government of Assam on 29th March 2022, basically the MoU was signed by the Government of Assam and Meghalaya. Ignoring the five mutually agreed upon principles of historical facts, ethnicity, administrative convenience, geographical continuity and the will of the people.

Areng said these issues were not reflected or addressed in the said MoU as desired by many people affected by the signing.
