On Tuesday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the Covid-19 vaccine for children is expected to be launched in the country from August. Last week, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Dr Randeep Guleria said the trials for covaxin were underway and the results were expected by September. But currently Covaxin trials are underway on children aged 2-6 years in Delhi AIIMS.
Mandaviya also said that India is soon going to be largest vaccine-producing country as more companies will get the production licence. On June 7, Delhi AIIMS started screening children between the age of 2 to 17 for trials of Covid-19 vaccine. On June 22, Randeep Guleria told that a Covid-19 vaccine would be available for children by September. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Zydus Cadila’s candidates are also testing vaccines for children.
