Bengali filmmaker Prasoon Chatterjee’s directorial debut ‘Dostji’ won the top prize, the Golden Shika Award, at the Nara International Film Festival (IFF) in Japan in the international competition category. The director will also receive the opportunity to make a film in Japan fully financed and produced by Nara IFF (up to $1 million) as part of the award.
At Nara IFF, ‘Dostojee competed in the International Competition category along with seven other brilliant films from around the world.
Starring Jayati Chakraborty and Swatilekha Kundu as well as child artists Asiq Sheikh and Arif Sheikh, the film centers on the innocent friendship of two boys of a remote border village of West Bengal, isolated from Bangladesh along the Padma River.
The critically acclaimed Bengali film will be released on November 11 in theatres in India.
The film will have its UAE and American premieres in international competition at the 39th Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and the Sharjah International Film Festival. The film has also been invited for the main competition in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, which is the biggest film awards event in this region.
The critically acclaimed movie will release in the cinema Hall of India on November 11. At the 39th Chicago International Children’s Film Festival and the Sharjah International Film Festival, this film will have its American and UAE premieres in international competition. The film was also invited to the main competition of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the region’s largest film award ceremony.
