At least 5 dead in Tel Aviv shooting

At least five people were killed by gunmen in the central city of Beni Brak, east of Tel Aviv, on Tuesday. The cause of the incident was not clear. It came two days after a gunman opened fire in the city of Hadera that killed two police officers, and a week later a stabbing in the southern city of Beersheba killed four.

Concerns have been raised that the attack could lead to further violence. Police said shots were fired at two locations on Tuesday, apparently by a gunman on a motorcycle.

The militant Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for two attacks in the past week, in which the attackers were killed.

Security services have raided the homes of at least 12 Arab nationals and arrested two suspected of having links to the Islamic State group in a crackdown on recent deadly attacks.

Hours before the raid, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the latest attack inside Israel, in which six people were killed, marked a “new situation” that required tighter security measures.
