Actor Akshay Kumar says he has Canadian citizenship for a reason, considered moving there when films failed

Actor Akshay Kumar who is often trolled as ‘Canada Kumar’, admitted that he still holds Canadian citizenship whilst paying taxes in India. Back in 2019, Akshay was once criticised after he applied for Canada’s citizenship and skipped vote casting at some point of the Lok Sabha elections. The actor stated that he used to be considering shifting to Canada after his motion pictures had been now not working.

But, after getting success again in India, he changed his mind. “I have a passport. See I am an Indian, I pay all my taxes and pay here. I have a choice to pay it there too but I pay for them in my country. I work in my country. Many people say something and are allowed to. To them, I just want to say that I am an Indian, and I will always be an Indian,” he further revealed.

While Akshay’s citizenship has generally been a matter of debate among people, earlier the actor had guaranteed that he had applied for an Indian passport. During the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2019, he said, “I have now applied for a passport. I am an Indian and it pains me that I am asked to prove it every time.” His current time is Raksha Bandhan of filmmaker Anand L Rai.
