Siliguri, Dec 14: Police have arrested a youth for duping friend of lakhs of rupees. The arrested accused Aninda Dutta (21) is a resident of Gangarampur in South Dinajpur district.
According to information, Aninda and Siliguri resident Debadityo Pal were close friends. It is alleged that Aninda took advantage of their friendship and convinced Debadityo to invest money in the stock market and hotel business in Darjeeling, promising him lucrative returns. Trusting his friend, Debadityo gradually gave Rs 63 lakh to Aninda.
However, Aninda allegedly refused to return Rs 63 lakh to Debadityo and there was no profit. After this, Debadityo lodged a case of cheating at Siliguri police station on June 7.
On coming to know about the complaint, Aninda switched off his phone and fled to Assam. The police began investigation and after five months of investigation, arrested Aninda from Assam on Friday. He was then taken to Siliguri on transit remand, where he arrived on Saturday. Aninda was produced before a Siliguri court today and the police obtained a four-day remand for further interrogation.
