A total of two people were killed and one was critically injured after being hit by a local train while clicking selfies near a railway bridge over the Cossye river in Midnapore in West Bengal on Saturday.
The injured person was rescued by the Railway Police and was rushed to the hospital.
Railway Senior Section Engineer Biswajit Bala said, “Everyone is forbidden to climb on this part of the railway line. Despite the ban, many people are taking selfies on the train tracks. However, they did not move and ran along the line. So this accident happened.”
The other friend who was present with them during the incident has been grievously injured and is currently fighting for his life at the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Mustaq Ali Khan and Abir Gayen, both aged 35. The injured person has been identified as Junmat Gayen aged 35, The Times of India reported.
Junmat and Mustaq are both natives of Midnapore’s Rajar Bagan. However, Abir is a native of Hatalkar.
After having their lunch, three friends went to the railway train tracks and proceeded to the Kansai rail bridge.
They began sprinting as they reached the centre of the bridge and heard the train alarm. However, before they could reach the end of the bridge, a Midnapore-Howrah local arrived at around 4:45 pm.
