A four-member team of the West Bengal Police arrived in Guwahati on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the cash seizure case involving three Jharkhand MLAs, which has implicated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
The Congress has alleged that the BJP is trying to topple the coalition government with the JMM in Jharkhand by offering Rs 10 crore and a ministerial post to each MLA.
As per the report, they have extended full cooperation to their counterparts from neighboring states in the investigation of the case. “The rumor that we have detained them is completely wrong. In fact, they are roaming around the city in the vehicles provided by us,” the officer said.
Sources said the West Bengal Police team is looking to collect CCTV footage from Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport to ascertain whether the arrested Congress MLAs from Jharkhand had recently visited Assam to meet Sarma.
Three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand – Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap and Naman Bixal Kongari – were arrested by the West Bengal police after over Rs 49 lakh in cash was seized from their vehicle in Howrah on Sunday.
