The CID on Friday asked Mr Tiwari to appear before its officers in the city for questioning in the coal smuggling case.
Mr Tiwari, who is a former Trinamool Congress mayor of Asansol and joined the BJP ahead of the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections, confirmed receiving the notice.
“An investigating authority can summon anyone in the interest of the investigation,” said Mr Tiwari, former TMC MLA from Pandaveshwar.
