Vaccination drive for children aged 15 to 18 years old begins in India’s cities

From January 1, 2022, all potential beneficiaries can register on the Co-WIN portal. They also can register for vaccinations at vaccination centres by walking in.

COVID-19 vaccinations were given to beneficiaries in the age bracket of 15 to 18 years old around the country on Monday (January 3). Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on December 25, 2021 that vaccination for the age group 15-18 years will begin on January 3, 2022, while the administration of the precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories will begin on January 10, 2022. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had told the States and Union Territories that only ‘Covaxin’ will be administered in this population category, and that more doses of ‘Covaxin’ would be sent to all States and UTs, in line with the prime minister’s announcement. On January 1, 2022, all potential beneficiaries began registering on the Co-WIN portal. They can also avail of walk-in registration at the vaccination centers from today. Those with the birth year of 2007 or before will be eligible for vaccination under this category, an official release by the Health Ministry had said.
