Siliguri, Nov 21: Officers of the Phansidewa police station seized two pick-up vans loaded with rice and arrested two persons in connection with the illegal transportation of the consignment. The arrested persons have been identified as Hazrat Murtaza of Rabvita and Mohammad Alam, a resident of Leusipakuri.
On Thursday, the police intercepted two suspicious pick-up vans carrying rice near Litchi Garden in Phansidewa. On investigation, the police found that the vehicles were carrying rice, suspected to be ration distribution rice, but did not have any valid documents.
Following the seizure, the two suspects were arrested. The police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the rice. The arrested persons were produced before the Siliguri sub-divisional court on Thursday. At present, the officers are continuing to investigate the source of the rice and the involvement of others in the illegal activity.
