Toyota-Ohmium pact advances India’s hydrogen policy goals

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based Ohmium International to co-develop integrated and scalable Green Hydrogen power solutions. The partnership directly supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and broader energy transition goals of achieving energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070.

Combining Toyota’s fuel cell technology with Ohmium’s modular PEM electrolyzers, the collaboration will focus on developing microgrid systems for sectors such as data centers, off-grid industrial units, and remote locations. The initiative promotes local innovation under the ‘Make in India’ program, fosters decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors, and reflects the government’s policy shift toward diversified, clean energy sources.

This development is being closely followed by stakeholders in the energy, transport, and small manufacturing sectors. As seeks to modernize its infrastructure and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, hydrogen-based solutions could offer decentralized, low-emission alternatives for backup power and logistics.
