Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create awareness and promote the use of ethanolas as a sustainable biofuel in India. The MoU exchangetook place in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri. Yogi Adityanath ji, along with other key Government officials and dignitaries, at an event marking the 120th anniversary of the first Sugar Mill in Uttar Pradesh. The Indian Government and the Sugar Industry have signed an MoU to accelerate the adoption of ethanol as an indigenous alternate clean fuel, contributing to the nation’s goal to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and carbon footprints. Higher use of ethanol will increase farmer incomes and create new jobs, boosting the agrarian economy and reducing fossil fuel imports.
The Government has also launched second-generation technologies for producing ethanol from agricultural residues. India has set an ambitious target to achieve 20% ethanol blending in gasoline by 2025, saving India Rs. 30,000 crores in foreign exchange and reducing carbon emissions by 10 million tonnes. Expressing his thoughts on the MoU exchange, Mr. Aditya Jhunjhunwala, President of Indian Sugar Mills Association, said, “This will go a long way in contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.”
