Theft of lakhs from Reliance Smart in Siliguri; Manager and staff member arrested

Siliguri, 3 September (Retd.). The police have arrested the manager and a staff member in connection with the theft of lakhs of rupees in cash from the Reliance Smart Store located on Sevoke Road, Siliguri. The arrested persons are 34-year-old store manager Subroto Ghosh and 25-year-old staff member Tapas Poddar. A security guard, who is currently absconding, is also being searched by the authorities.
Reports suggest that a man wearing a burqa entered the shop on Sunday night, hid in the storeroom and waited until the store was closed. The man then switched off all the CCTV cameras, broke the cash box, stole around Rs 4 lakh in cash along with the CCTV DVR and hid back in the store room.
The next morning, as soon as the store opened, the thief took advantage of the opportunity and left with the stolen money and DVR. The store management informed the theft to Bhakti Nagar police station, after which the investigation began. After interrogation, both Ghosh and Poddar were arrested.
Police have requested the court to remand the suspects to help solve the theft. They are also searching for the missing security guard.
