Tesla gets new Indian-origin CFO Vaibhav Taneja

Tesla, an automotive and energy company, has appointed Indian-origin Vaibhav Taneja as its chief financial officer. In an August 7 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company said he will assume duties as CFO in addition to his current role as chief accounting officer.

He succeeded Zachary Kirkhorn who resigned on August 4 after a thirteen-year term with the company.

Taneja joined Texas-headquartered firm Tesla in 2018 as an assistant corporate controller. Taneja(45) previously worked in various finance and accounting roles at SolarCity Corporation and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in India and the US. He is a Chartered Accountant of the 2000 batch.

“Kirkhorn will continue to serve Tesla until the end of the year to support a seamless transition,” the company’s regulatory statement said. Kirkhorn served as Master of Coin and Chief Financial Officer.

“Effective March 15, 2021, the designations of Elon Musk and Zach Kirkhorn have changed to Tesla’s Technoking and Master of Coins, respectively. Elon and Zach will maintain their respective positions as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer,” the company said in a March 2021 regulatory filing.
