Naxalbari: Tension prevailed in Naxalbari after locals alleged illegal installation of a mobile tower on the rooftop of a four-storey building.
According to residents, the installation work was started without any official permission. The incident took place in East Babupara area, where locals allege that despite a mobile tower being present nearby, another tower was being installed surreptitiously during night hours.
Worried about health hazards and legal violations, residents lodged a complaint with the Naxalbari gram panchayat, block development officer (BDO) and the local police station, seeking immediate action to stop the construction work.
On Sunday night, when representatives of the contractor company arrived to continue the work, they faced stiff opposition from the locals and had to leave the area. As the situation worsened, police from the Naxalbari police station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
No statement has been received from the house owner regarding the allegations.
