Siliguri: Chaos prevailed during the Siliguri Municipal Corporation board meeting on Wednesday when member of the mayor-in-council (MMIC) Dilip Barman was allegedly removed from the meeting after a heated argument.
According to sources, Barman was interrupted while trying to speak, leading to an argument with the chairman, mayor and deputy mayor. The matter quickly deteriorated and Barman was asked to leave the meeting.
Outside the meeting, Dilip Barman expressed his displeasure and questioned the recent demolition drive against an illegal building being halted. He alleged that the demolition process had begun but was abruptly halted after a phone call.
Barman raised concerns over why the action was halted and demanded accountability. The incident has brought to the open the internal strife within the municipal corporation, sparking a new political debate in Siliguri.
