Tell CM not to deny info sought under RTI: Meghalaya BJP

Meghalaya BJP president, Ernest Mawrie on Monday requested Governor Satya Pal Malik to order Chief Minister Conrad Sangma not to deny information sought under Right to Information (RTI).

Mawrie said that the BJP has filed number of RTI seeking information on implementation of Saubhagya scheme, Jal Jeevan Mission, COVID-19 expenditure besides others, but the government is yet to furnish the information.

Mawrie has been facing the ire from the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, including legislators from his own party, for “raising issues of corruption.”

Chief Minister Sangma has denied allegations of corruption in his government and asked the BJP president to raise evidence-based issues.

Infact, Governor Malik had told UNI that he has not come across any corruption while reviewing centrally sponsored schemes implemented in the State.

However, Mawrie said the Governor should first “instruct” the Chief Minister to provide answers to RTIs filed by the party.

“We have filed RTIs on the implementation of the centrally sponsored Saubhagya scheme and are yet to get replies from the power department. We have also filed an RTI on the Rs. 400 crore COVID-19 spending and replies have not been received,” he added.
