East India’s biggest running festival, Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata, returns on December 15, 2024, with a new accolade as a World Athletics Gold Label Race. Offering a prize purse of USD 142,214, the event will see elite athletes and amateurs run alongside each other on Red Road. Procam International announced that both on-ground and virtual run registrations will open on September 19, 2024.
Corporate sponsors, including VIDA and Impact360, have joined forces to elevate the event’s appeal. Legendary cricketer Jhulan Goswami and actress Koushani Mukherjee are returning as event ambassadors.
With the race’s growing influence, Siliguri’s running community sees this as a major inspiration. “The visibility of such an event motivates local athletes to push their boundaries,” said a representative from the Siliguri Runners’ Club. Increased participation from the region is expected in both the 25K and 10K categories.
