Debate has frequently been triggered by a number of Bollywood superstars supporting alcohol and tobacco brands. Even though these commercials pay well, performers are regularly the target of social media trolling, and many people doubt the accountability of public figures, particularly in light of their impact on younger viewers. Bollywood star Suniel Shetty, however, has spoken out about turning down a ₹40 crore tobacco commercial, saying he doesn’t want to support something he doesn’t support.
Suniel explained why, despite being given large sums of money, he has never supported tobacco brands in a podcast. “I owe everything to my health,” he declared. “Suniel Shetty got a chance in the movie industry thanks to my body. I will be treating myself unfairly if I do not regard it as my house of worship. What kind of legacy am I going to give my kids? Even if I’m no longer relevant in the movie industry or at the box office, 17 to 20-year-olds still show me a great deal of affection and respect. It’s not real.”
“I was offered ₹40 crore for a tobacco ad, and I looked at them and said, ‘Do you really think I’ll fall for it?'” He remarked, “disclosing that he turned down the offer. I refuse to. No, maybe I didn’t need the money. I won’t do anything I don’t believe in since it would make Ahan, Athiya, Rahul, and everyone else look bad. Nobody even dares to come near me after that.”
