Siliguri, May 05: A portion of road suddenly collapsed in Jaleswari near Siliguri Eastern Bypass on Sunday night, creating a deep crater and spreading panic among residents. The incident has severely disrupted local traffic.
Locals discovered the road damage on Monday morning and expressed disappointment, saying the road was constructed just a year ago. They also alleged that poor drainage maintenance and lack of proper monitoring led to the road collapse.
Despite being informed of the matter, residents claimed that no panchayat representative visited the spot. They also complained of long-standing neglect of drains in the area.
Dabgram II Anchal Panchayat Pradhan Mitali Malakar said the reasons behind the road collapse were being investigated. She assured that if corruption is found, strict action will be taken and that drainage issues have already been sorted out.
