Siliguri, June 27: Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has launched a city-wide campaign to remove encroachments from roads and footpaths. This step has been taken after strict instructions from the Chief Minister.
Since Thursday morning, SMC conducted raids in many areas of Siliguri. Major locations include Hospital Mod, Kachari Road and Seth Shrilal Market, where shops occupying footpaths and roads were removed. Besides, an illegal construction in Seth Shrilal Market was also demolished.
Earlier, clearance operations were conducted by various police stations in Siliguri on Wednesday. The raid was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted roads and footpaths for the citizens of Siliguri.
