On Tuesday morning, encroachment was removed in areas adjacent to Bhutia Market and on East Bengal Road and Tilak Road.
It is being told that about 18 shops built on the footpaths were demolished. Apart from this, the illegal part of the shop of a trader who was running a shop illegally for many days in Seth Shrilal Market was also demolished.
In this regard, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar said that some traders were running shops by encroaching on the footpaths of the road, causing traffic problems.
He said that even before this, the Municipal Corporation had launched a campaign to remove the footpaths. The road of Bhutia Market is the busiest road, so today the footpaths were freed from encroachment.
