Siliguri police start bicycle patrol to curb crime during Durga Puja

Siliguri, Oct 05: In a commendable move to strengthen the city’s security during Durga Puja, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has launched bicycle patrolling. The initiative is aimed at reducing criminal activities such as theft and snatching, which often increase during the festive season.
To curb such incidents, police officers will now patrol the city on bicycles, especially at night. On Friday night, Siliguri Police Station IC Prasanjit Biswas along with his crime wing team were seen patrolling various areas under their jurisdiction on bicycles.
The team inspected several places including Siliguri District Hospital to take stock of the security arrangements. Apart from this, the patrol team also visited areas like Baghajatin Park, Court More, Mahavirsthan and Railway Gate.
The police administration has emphasized that the aim of bicycle patrolling is to control criminals and criminal incidents during the festive season. This initiative will mainly focus on night patrolling and will continue even after the festivals.
