Siliguri in festive mood with Vishwakarma Puja

With the start of Vishwakarma Puja on Wednesday, Siliguri is in a festive mood thanks to initiatives taken by the district administration.

Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar, along with senior police officers and representatives from other departments, visited several Durga Puja pandals to ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines. He told reporters, “The purpose of my visit is to monitor the ongoing pandal construction and ensure the safety of visitors. We will not compromise with any organizer who violates safety norms.” He further stated that inspections will continue to ensure compliance with police instructions.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, MPs Khagen Murmu and Raju Bista were seen sweeping the streets of Malda and Siliguri to promote the Swachh Bharat Mission.

At Bagdogra Airport, officials celebrated ‘Yatri Seva Diwas’ by welcoming passengers with traditional Indian hospitality and cultural programs. The program also included tree-planting drives and blood donation camps. Similar activities were held at airports across the country.

Preparations are underway for the “Namo Run” to be held in Siliguri on September 22nd to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday. The event will be held in 75 cities on September 21st, with another special program in Siliguri a day later.

Furthering preparations for the celebrations, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is preparing to launch its centenary celebrations in West Bengal, with special activities already underway in Siliguri to energize volunteers. Under the banner of “Mahalaya Ekikaran – Sangh Centenary,” a couplet from the RSS prayer – “Tvadiya Karyaay Baddha Katyam, Shubhmaashishan Dehi Tatpurtaye” – is being prominently recited. It has been announced that on Sunday, September 21, 2025, the day of Mahalaya, the RSS will organize Mahalaya Integration Programs in all branches and city units of West Bengal to commemorate its centenary year.

Festive enthusiasm is palpable across North Bengal, with crowds of shoppers thronging markets from Malda to Cooch Behar in preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja. In Mothabari Re Para, Malda, the foundation stone of a Ram temple was laid today ahead of Vishwakarma Puja – a notable development given that the area witnessed communal unrest just a few months ago.
