MP, June 17, 2025, Siliguri: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with Bhaktinagar Police Station, has busted a gang making fake Aadhaar cards operating under the guise of a photography studio.
This illegal business was going on in a studio located in a multi-storey building on Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass Road. On receiving information, a police team conducted an undercover operation by posing as a buyer.
During the raid, the police caught the fraudsters red-handed, following which seven people involved in the gang were arrested. The arrested accused have been identified as Chittaranjan Sarkar (building owner), Shasthi Mandal, Titu Das, Vishwajit Roy, Mangalu Singh alias Gautam, Hari Kishor Roy and Abesh Gupta.
The police seized a large number of fake documents from the spot, including Aadhaar cards, caste certificates, voter ID cards and PAN cards. Equipment such as computers, colour printers and biometric machines were also recovered. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fake Aadhaar cards were made mainly for people coming from outside the state and foreign nationals who did not have proper identity documents. The illegal documents were reportedly being sold for an amount between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, which were ready within a few days. Bhaktinagar police station in-charge inspector Amit Adhikari confirmed the recovery of several fake identity cards and related equipment. “We have recovered several fake documents including Aadhaar cards, voter cards. The entire network is currently being investigated,” he said. The police are now investigating the extent of the racket and trying to find out how many fake documents were issued.
