Samsung has launched design thinking workshops in select schools of Mangan, Sikkim. This initiative, an integral part of Samsung’s ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ program, aims to cultivate essential skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking among students aged over 14. The workshops, tailored for the Indian context, introduce students to the principles of design thinking, urging them to tackle real-world challenges through innovative solutions. Led by the Human-Centered Design Thinking framework, these sessions emphasize empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing to develop solutions that enhance users’ lives.
Mr. SP Chun, Corporate Vice President of Samsung Southwest Asia, expressed, “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is part of our vision to empower the next generation and create an ecosystem of innovation in the country.” He emphasized the importance of nurturing young innovators from a tender age and highlighted the workshops as a platform for students to engage in problem-solving, collaboration, and creative thinking.
The workshops, which began in April and run until May 31, 2024, introduce students to the five steps of design thinking: empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Through interactive sessions, students immerse themselves in understanding user experiences, identifying core issues, brainstorming solutions, prototyping ideas, and refining them based on user feedback. Solve for Tomorrow, operational in 63 countries, aims to ignite the passion for problem-solving globally. In its 2024 edition, participating students, aged 14-17, stand a chance to win grants and Samsung products to advance their prototypes. The winning team, crowned as the “Community Champion,” will receive a seed grant of INR 25 lakh for prototype advancement, alongside Samsung products for their school.
