After welcoming all G20 country sherpas and their delegations on the 4th of December, meetings on the substantive issues of G20 began in earnest on the 5th of December in the lake city of Udaipur in Rajasthan. India is holding its first G20 meeting as G20 Presidentin Udaipur, Rajasthan from 4th to 7th December.
Day 2 of the Sherpa Meeting began with delegates getting an overview of India’s G20 Presidency from Indian Sherpa Mr. Amitabh Kant, who shared India’s success stories in several areas, such as manufacturing, infrastructure, tourism, and digital transformation. Mr. Kant, in his opening remarks, also highlighted India’s responsibility in being the voice of the Global South and using its role as G20 Chair to shine a light on critical issues affecting those in need.
The G20 Sherpas had constructive discussions and enthusiastic participation in the first session on the issue of Technological Transformation with working groups on Digital Economy, Health, and Education. G20 Sherpa Mr. Amitabh Kant noted that the focus of India’s Presidency would be on shared priorities and forging win-win collaborations between developing countries of the global south and the advanced economies of the world.
