West Bengal education minister, Bratya Basu, on Thursday said that secondary and higher secondary examinations will be organized as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control. “The dates of the examination will be announced after talking to the chief minister,” he said. ” The secondary examination was to start from June 1 and the higher secondary examination from June 15. But due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases has created uncertainty about the examinations.
West Bengal state Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay had informed on 18th May that secondary and higher secondary examinations would not be held in June either. He said, “It was decided that the secondary examination would be held in the first half of June. The Higher Secondary Examination was supposed to be held in the second half of June. But now it has been decided that we will refrain from certain activities. It takes time to organize and prepare for such a large-scale examination. So those tests will not be held in June.” He further added, “students and parents need not to worry. The examination will be held, the dates will be announced. There will be enough time to prepare for the examination.”
Following the announcement of the Chief Secretary, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) also issued a notification announcing that the June examinations would not be held. They notified that they will further notify the schedule of both the examinations in advance.
