Residents protest against lack of progress in ghat preparations in Siliguri ahead of Chhath Puja

Siliguri, Nov 04: Residents of Natun Pada in Ward No. 05 of Siliguri on Monday protested over the lack of progress in the preparations of Chhath Ghat a day before the festival.
It is noteworthy that Chhath Puja is celebrated in many areas of Bihar and West Bengal. This festival is going to start from November 5, due to which preparations have started to build pavilions on the ghats for worship. Preparations for construction have started on many ghats, while the residents of Natun Para have expressed disappointment that work has not yet started on their ghat.
The protesters blamed the contractors for the delay and complained that except for that area, the work was going on smoothly. The contractors were not fulfilling their responsibilities. They expressed their anger over the negligence and demanded immediate action to make the ghat ready for the festival.
Tukai Paswan, secretary of the Natun Para Chhath Puja Committee, confirmed that the project has been delayed due to contractor issues despite full support from the state government. He demanded that preparations for the Chhath Ghat should begin immediately.
Ward councillor Anita Mahato commented on the situation and confirmed that the contractors are not working properly. The puja committee is facing problems due to their works. She assured that she will resolve the issue with the concerned contractors so that the construction process can be expedited.
