The Central Bank of India(RBI) on September 30 announced the extension date of deadline for citizens to exchange or deposit Rs 2000 notes at bank branches till 7 October following a review.
This was done to facilitate the remaining bank customers deposit/exchange Rs 2000 notes who failed to do it until September 30 which was the original deadline set up by the RBI.
As per the statement of RBI, even after October 7, individuals will be able to exchange Rupees 2000 notes at the 19 RBI Issue offices up to a limit of Rs20,000 at once. Also, customers and companies can tender Rs2000 notes at the 19 RBI issue offices for credit to their respective bank accounts in India for any amount.
It has been also confirmed that citizens from within the country can also send Rs 2000 notes via India Post, addressed to any of the 19 RBI Issue Offices for credit to their bank accounts in India.
