A 26-year-old man accused of raping a lady died at an authorities clinic here, police stated on Sunday. The sanatorium authorities said the patient died of multi-organ failure, but the family alleged that he was overwhelmed by using villagers and the police throughout his arrest, which led to complications inflicting his death.
The accused used to be admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on September eight with high blood urea and rectal bleeding, a senior physician said. The affected person died of multi-organ failure on Saturday night, Dr Rajiv Ranjan(RIMS public relation officer) informed PTI.
The accused was arrested on August 28 following a complaint filed by the girl at Narkopi police station in Ranchi district. He was later sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi.
The 15-year-old girl in her grievance had alleged that the accused forcibly entered her house and committed the crime when her family members had gone out for agricultural work.
Avinash Kumar, officer-in-charge of Narkopi police station, said, “The accused was medically examined before he was despatched to jail. We have the clinical certificates which declared him fit,” he told PTI.
The accused fell ill three or four days after he was jailed, the police officer said.
“He used to be provided treatment by way of penal complex doctors. When his circumstance did now not improve, he used to be admitted to the prison ward in RIMS but he died,” Kumar said. When requested if the accused used to be beaten for the duration of his arrest, he stated that irate villagers had gathered in massive numbers.
“The accused was once covered from villagers’ wrath and delivered safely to the police station. He was once physically suited when he was once despatched to jail,” he said.
