Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday held a meeting with top officials of the Army, Navy and Air Force on the overall situation arising out of the rollout of the ‘Agnipath’ military recruitment scheme as protests against it intensified in various parts of the country.
The meeting was attended by Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chowdhury, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Army Vice Chief General BS Raju.
It is learned that the focus of the meeting was to ensure the speedy rollout of the ‘Agnipath’ project and ways to pacify the agitators.
Army Chief General Manoj Pandey could not attend the meeting as he was in Hyderabad on an official visit.
On Friday, the Army, Navy and Air Force announced that they would start the recruitment process under the new model by next week.
Along with this, the government on Thursday night raised the age limit from 21 to 23 years in 2022 for recruitment under the ‘Agnipath’ scheme.
