Racket involved in making fake Aadhaar cards has been busted in a police raid at the Indo-Nepal border

Siliguri, Nov 09: In a major breakthrough, a racket involved in making fake Aadhaar cards has been busted in a police raid at the Indo-Nepal border, following which a person named Sonai Sarkar was arrested.
Reports suggest that a racket was being run to make fake Aadhaar cards for Nepali nationals in exchange for money. Based on a tip-off, officers of the Kharibari police station led by Naxalbari SDPO Neha Jain raided an online centre at Badra Jote in Batasi, Kharibari. During the raid, the police recovered three Aadhaar cards and several documents, along with computers, hard drives and printers.
After this, Sonai Sarkar was arrested and produced in Siliguri court on Saturday. According to police sources, Sarkar was earlier arrested on 2 October 2023 in Phansidewa for making an Indian identity card for a Bangladeshi citizen.
At the press conference, SDPO Neha Jain revealed that the raid was conducted based on confidential information. Some Nepali nationals were reportedly at the centre for getting fake Aadhaar cards made in exchange for a sum of between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000. It is believed that these fake IDs were mainly used to cross the border.
The SDPO also advised Bangladeshi and Nepali nationals to be cautious and avoid falling prey to such scams. The police are planning to take him on remand to the government to investigate other people potentially involved in this operation.
