Pune organised 4th G20 Education Working Group Meeting

India’s G20 Presidency is hosting the fourth G20 Education Working Group in Pune from June 20-21, 2023. The meeting, attended by India’s Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Secretary of Higher Education Sanjay Murthy, attracted 85 delegates from G-20 member countries, invited countries, and OECD, UNESCO, and UNICEF organizations.

The first day of the meeting began with Secretary of Higher Education Sanjay Murthy and Chief Coordinator for India’s G20 Presidency Harsh Vardhan Shringla’s opening remarks. Shringla praised India as a promising solution to global issues and emphasized the importance of the meeting for deciding future policies. The draft G20 Education Ministers’ Declaration was discussed, emphasizing cooperation and innovations in the education sector.

Foreign delegates visited heritage sites in Pune, including Shaniwarwada, Lal Mahal, and Nana Wada. They learned about the childhood history of Chhatrapati Shivrai and the significance of Nana Wada. Around 150 foreign tourists from 50 countries participated in the visit. On Monday, they were warmly welcomed at Savitribai Phule Pune University with colorful garlands and drum beats. A seminar on ‘Foundational Literacy and Numeracy’ in the context of Blended Learning was organized, attended by 50 delegates from 20 countries.
