Police fire tear gas shells during DYFI’s Uttar Kanya Abhiyan in Siliguri

Siliguri, Mar 28: Tension escalated in Siliguri during DYFI’s Uttar Kanya Abhiyan on Friday, forcing the police to fire several tear gas shells to control the situation. Several DYFI leaders were also detained during the protest.

The rally was organised by DYFI on the occasion of anti-unemployment day and was attended by activists from seven districts of North Bengal. DYFI state secretary Meenakshi Mukherjee joined the protest along with hundreds of leaders and activists.

As the rally reached Teen Batti More, police blocked their way by erecting barricades, leading to a confrontation between the protesters and law enforcement officials. The situation worsened, forcing the police to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
