Police crackdown on crime cases in Siliguri

Siliguri: In multiple operations that continued till late Monday night, police teams from Pradhan Nagar and Matigara police stations of Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested 11 persons on charges of possession of illegal arms, attempted robbery and drug trafficking.

The crime prevention branch of Pradhan Nagar police station arrested Mohammed Feroz alias Raj, a resident of 8 Mile area in Kalimpong, with a country-made pistol and a cartridge during a raid at Gurung Basti More. Police sources said Feroz has a criminal record in the past.

In another operation, the Pradhan Nagar police foiled a robbery attempt at BRI Colony and arrested four suspects – Biki Sahni, Bijoy Oraon, Ravi Sarkar (all residents of Siliguri) and Saurav Dorjee (resident of Alipurduar) while several others fled. The Matigara police raided Transport Nagar and arrested five miscreants – Manish Tamang, resident of Kurseong, Manmohan Barman, resident of Shiva Mandir, Bikash Chandra Roy and Pashunath Barman, both residents of Himul Gate, Siliguri, and Biswajit Biswas, a resident of NJP – and seized material used in the robbery.

In a separate operation, the Anti-Crime Branch of Matigara police arrested Pradip Roy, resident of Rabindra Sarani, Shiva Mandir, with 24 bottles of banned cough syrup. All the accused were produced before a court in Siliguri on Tuesday. Further investigation is underway in all the cases.
