Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the demise of former Soviet leader Mikhail S Gorbachev.
“I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of H.E. Mr. Mikhail Gorbachev, one of the leading statesmen of the 20th century who left an indelible mark on the course of history. We recall and value his contribution to strengthening of relations with India.” Modi said in a tweet.
“We remember and appreciate his contribution to strengthening ties with India,” he added.
According to sources, Gorbachev died on Tuesday at the age of 91 in a Moscow hospital after a “severe and prolonged illness”.
His death drew condolences and tributes from leaders from all over the world.
