In the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute’s (CNCI) second campus in Kolkata on Friday.
Banerjee thanked the PM for inviting her to the event and said the institute holds a special place in her soul because she spent her college days nearby.
Modi said on Twitter a day ago that the CNCI campus’s inauguration will take place at 1 p.m. The tweet further said, “This institute will augment healthcare capacities in eastern India and the northeast.”
The second campus of CNCI was constructed in accordance with Modi’s “vision to expand and upgrade health facilities in all parts of the country,” according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Modi said during the event that India has now administered 150 crore vaccines, which is a historic milestone.
According to him, nearly 90% of the eligible population has received at least one dosage of the coronavirus illness vaccination. “Over 1.5 crore children aged 15-17 have received a dosage in just five days,” he said.
