“Physical Infrastructure Development in Kolkata” Report Released by Vestian

Vestian, a leading global real estate solutions provider, has published a report on the physical infrastructure development in Kolkata, highlighting its impact and future outlook. It highlights the city’s ports, railway network, road connectivity, and upcoming projects that are set to further enhance its transport infrastructure.

The ports of Kolkata, Haldia, and Kolkata Dock System collectively handled over 108 million tons of cargo between April 2022 and January 2023, making them the fifth highest in the country in terms of cargo handling. Kolkata boasts nearly 1,000 registered industries, representing a diversified economic base that contributes to the city’s economic growth and stability. The suburban railway service in Kolkata is India’s largest, covering 1600 km and ranking as the seventh largest in the world. It consists of five main lines: the South Eastern line, Eastern line, Sealdah South line, Chord Link line, and Circular line.

With 1500 services daily, it serves 3.5 million commuters, facilitating efficient transportation across the city. Kolkata’s road network is connected to other metro cities and the Asian Highway system, contributing to regional connectivity and trade. Vestian’s report highlights projects to improve transport infrastructure in Kolkata, such as the Southern Bypass, widening of the Kalyani Expressway, and a double-storeyed underpass. Authorities should aim for quicker sanctions and promote growth through Land Banks, Land-use Maps, and LDPs.
