ONGC chopper accident: 4 people die, 5 others undergoing treatment

At least 4 humans died on Tuesday after being brought out of the Pawan Hans helicopter of the ONGC. 5 others rescued from the ill-fated helicopter are undergoing remedy at a medical unit.

The 4 humans had been declared dead at the Nanavati Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Mukesh Patel, Vijay Mondaloi, Satyambad Patra and Sanju Francis – all hailing from certain states.

A helicopter with 2 pilots and 7 others, including 6 ONGC employees, fell into the Arabian Sea about 50 nautical miles off the Mumbai coast but managed to stay afloat with the help of attached floaters.

Three of the victims were ONGC employees and the fourth was engaged in contracts through the oil company.

Four people were picked up by a Navy helicopter from the spot where the incident took place on Tuesday morning and flown to the Pawan Hans air base. From there, 4 ambulances took them to Nanavati Clinic where the doctors declared them dead.

Mumbai Police is working on registering accidental death reports.

ONGC officials said that 5 other injured persons including 2 pilots are out of danger and undergoing treatment at a medical unit at Sagar Kiran.
