Recently a lorry carrying coal from Rajasthan to Bhutan overturned late Friday night on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH) at the Jotiakali intersection. Actually the accident occurred around 11 p.m. due to the poor condition of the road. Reportedly, the driver, who was actually injured in the incident, was rescued and transported to a private hospital in Fulbari. In fact local authorities, including the New Jalpaiguri police, arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the accident.
Eyewitnesses and local drivers attributed the cause of the accident to the deteriorated state of the 4 km stretch of highway between Jotiakali and Fulbari, which has been in disrepair for an extended period. They emphasized that such accidents are frequent and called for urgent repairs to ensure road safety. This is very sad incident and people should take it very seriously as road safety is very important thing for everyone. In fact for ever place road is very important infrastructure as all activity in that place is dependent on road. Actually today it becomes a very important need for us to follow traffic rules very strictly to make road a safe place.
