Older man killed in elephant attack while collecting firewood in Salugara forest

Siliguri, Dec 18: An older man died in an elephant attack in Salugara forest adjoining 5 Mile Bengal Safari. The deceased has been identified as Fegu Hemram, a resident of Vedagara in Bhakti Nagar police station area.

According to reports, Fegu Hemram had gone to the forest to collect firewood, which was his daily routine, when suddenly the elephant attacked him.

On receiving the news of the incident, a team of Salugara forest department reached the spot. The man was immediately rushed to Siliguri District Hospital. Sadly, the doctors at the hospital declared him dead.

The body has been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The Salugara forest department and Bhakti Nagar police are investigating the circumstances of the fatal encounter.
