On the 10th of August 2023, the first fuel station was launched in India’s tamilnadu which is run by the woman convicts(serving jail terms). As of now around 26 ladies have been selected based on their good conduct at Puzhal Jail.
As per the sources, the initial salary of the prisoners will be 6,000 which will be increased further.
This initiative will help the women convicts to get rid of stigma and can reintegrate with the community after their release.
The fuel station was constructed outside the premises of the prison area in Puzhal, Chennai, and it is named as ‘Freedom Filling Station’.
