“No one can afford a movie like ‘K3G’ today,” says Karan Johar on Roposo’s live show

‘Kavi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ is undoubtedly one of the most loved Hindi motion pictures of the early 2000s. However, director and producer Karan Johar feels that a film like ‘K3G’ cannot be made in recent days in Bollywood. In fact, at some point in an exhibition on Roposo, the live entertainment commerce platform led by India’s top creator, he even expressed the intention as to why such a mega multi-starrer film can’t be made nowadays.

During the ‘My Movie Life’ exhibition with Rajeev Masand, filmmaker Karan Johar spoke about several actors, films, and even his previous hits. However, while talking about ‘Kavi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, he pointed out that considering how the Indian film industry has changed, the big name cast with names like Shahrukh Khan, Kajal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan is no longer sustainable.

Karan Johar mentioned on the show, “No one can afford a film like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ today. Getting one actor in a frame is so expensive, imagine six of them. It is a pity that we can’t recreate such videos nowadays because it will be such a massive deal for the viewers to see so many actors in one frame. I hope, want and pray that it happens. Economically, it is tough, but we ought to get the phenomena of multi-starrers again as the audience will get extra for one fee.”

On the work front, Karan Johar is currently working on ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. He is also back for the seventh season of ‘Koffee With Karan’ currently streaming on Disney Hotstar.

Although Karan Johar’s revelation may surprise you, what do you think about it? Do you want to see multistarrer in mainstream Hindi movies again?
